If you came across the words Senje Kombucha along the drinks isle of your favourite shopping store what would think about? Well, my first impression of Senje Kombucha, was that it looked like something to be enjoyed by the vegans, health enthusiasts non-alcohols (people who don’t pertake), a category that I am definitely not included in, by sheer luck or so it seemed I chanced upon it at Chandarana Foodplus and instantly felt the urge to try some. Or maybe deep down I was hoping it could cure my persistent back pain. Afterall there is nothing a good kombucha can’t do, so I came to find out. Here’s my tale of an encounter with Senje Kombucha

Senje kombucha
Made in Kenya by a Kenyan from Eldoret, Senje kombucha is a ready-to-drink, non-alcoholic beverage. The mildly fizzy fermented drink is made from sweetened tea and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts otherwise known as SCOBY. The resulting end product contains probiotics, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.

What makes Senje Kombucha stand out in its own right, is that it is infused with different locally sourced HERBS and SPICES with medicinal value; Let’s take a break from the fruity flavors if you will. Currently available ranges in the market are the classic flavor kombucha, Lemon grass infused, Hibiscus infused, Turmeric-infused, and Rosemary infused.
From my experience, well let’s ignore the few seconds I was mustering the courage to sip on it; the lemon grass-infused Senje kombucha became an easy favorite. It is tangy, and lemony on the tongue and quite vinegary in equal measure. But after a few sips, it becomes hard to put it down for sure.
If you are more of a sweet tooth, the hibiscus may suit you better (See what I did there… sweet, suit). Turmeric with its reputation for being better than Maurubaine might make you consider the turmeric-infused flavor.
Benefits of the Kombucha
As its reputation on social media precedes it’s NaturallyDifferent but fun approach to improving GUT health for all, it does exactly that. The probiotics resulting from the Kombucha are live beneficial bacteria that help balance bacteria levels in the gut while also improving digestion. More of the health benefits includes boosting immunity as well as detoxing the body not forgetting boosting energy.
Consequently, the resulting anti-oxidants can prevent disease by helping the body protect itself from substances that could damage cells. It also contains considerable amounts of vitamins and minerals that contributes to a healthy body.
How to sip on that Senje Kombucha
Senje Kombucha is a versatile drink, you can take it on its own, mixed with smoothies, mocktails, and cocktails, as well as taken as a chaser. You can also make iced tea with it apparently from what I’ve gathered.
For people who work out, it is also a good energy booster. Senje Kombucha is also kids friendly. You can use it on fruit juices instead of adding sugar and water.
However, perhaps an area of improvement in the product is the packaging in terms of the different flavors. Apart from the hibiscus flavor which stands out due to the red color of the contents, if one is not careful to read the labels you might mistake all for the same flavor because of the resemblance.
As a raw kombucha, Senje Kombuchas offers something different. You can still get your probiotic fix and vitamin fix while still enjoying your favorite drink. Grab your Senje Kombucha at Chandarana Foodplus, at Rupa’s retailing at Ksh. 270, for the 330ml bottle.
