I like to think of Kitenge Fest as the Kenyan Met Gala dubbed fashion’s biggest night out. A red carpet event filled with fabulous fashions, jaw-dropping makeup looks, show-stopping Ankara gowns, dapper tuxedos, celebrity sightings, savory food, drinks, music, and photography. Only that everybody is invited to this ball, unlike the Met Ball, which is limited to celebrities and industry makers.

Bearing all that in mind, you can imagine how pleased I was when the new date for the event came out. Kitenge Fest was postponed due to MOH regulations announced by the president at the time. Thankfully the organizers have figured a way around it. The prestigious event will now be held on 10th July.
Ahead of the big bash, I wanted to put you on to all the details we know about the event thus far. Including what the event will entail, what we can expect, and the celebrity artists who will be performing.
What Kitenge Fest 2021 Will Entail

This year’s Kitenge Fest organizers will present a 2 part exhibit. The first part will feature a Kitenge Market showcasing African print-inspired clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags, fabrics, and whatever have you.

Part two of the exhibition, which makes the event’s core, will entail a runway show where different Eldoret designers will showcase pieces they’ve made. It will also incorporate an award ceremony, speeches, and performances from various artists.

When, Where, and What Time?

Kitenge Fest 2021 will be held on 10th July at Rupa’s Mall. The Kitenge Market will start at 10 am. Entry is completely free.

The runway show combined with the award ceremony and musical performances kickstart at 2 pm. Tickets for this part of the event are going for 700 bob regular, 1500 bob VIP and 4000 bob for VVIP.

Celebrity Artists Who Will Be Performing
Fashion and entertainment are two arts that perfectly intertwine, and so Kitenge Fest organizers always make time to fuse the two. Performing acts will include DJ Thew, DJ Nosh, DJ Sule, DJ Aleky, Moovers Ent DJs, Almond, G Warriaz dance crew, Owago Nyiro, and the head of Saldido Entertainment, Willy Paul. The voice of the party, MC Nick, will be hosting together with Waigiri and MC Kiptabut.
