Eldoret Based Athletes To watch out for In The Rio Olympics

The Rio Olympics is a two week event set to commence on the 5th of August 2016 and end on the 21st of August. During this period Kenya will see 89 of its athletes compete in 9 different sports. This will be Kenya’s 14th appearance at the Olympics.

Eldoret Town dubbed the City of Champions and rightly so is home to many athletes that will be participating in the Rio Olympics due to their outstanding performances on the just completed Olympic trails. We have compiled a list of five Eldoret based athletes that you should look out for on the Rio Olympics.

Ezekiel Kemboi Cheboi.

Ezekiel is a 3000 meters’ specialist. He has had a good streak of wins. Going by his last World Championships in Beijing China, 2015 where he managed to scoop a gold medal. We should expect a great performance from Ezekiel Kemboi.

Asbel Kiprop.

Asbel is also a force to reckon with , he specializes in the 1500 meters. In the 2015 World championships Beijing China, he managed a gold medal. In the just concluded trials he took the first position with little effort. Asbel Kiprop is not one to disappoint. We look forward to a great performance from him as well.

Conselus Kipruto.

Conselus Kipruto is one of the youngest runners in the team having been born in 1994. He is a middle distance runner who competes in steeplechase. During the World championship in Beijing China he managed a second place. He is a very promising athlete to say the least.

Eunice Jepkoech Sum.

Eunice is also a middle distance runner and is the current African and Commonwealth Games Champion in the 800 meters. She is a master of the 800 meters having claimed the gold medal multiple times. She is one lady to watch out for in the 2016 Olympic.

Julius Yego.

Julius Yego known to have the hand of god competes in the Javelin throw. He is the African and Commonwealth holder for the event with a personal best of 92.72 meters. In both 2014 and 2015 he won the Gold medals in three events.

The list of athletes to watch out for is not limited to the aforementioned. The athletes that qualified for Rio Olympics have displayed excellent performances in the past and we look forward to nothing short of greatness in the Olympics.
