Film making, a career choice that was once shunned upon due to lack of opportunities is slowly becoming a lucrative business attracting many creatives that are interested in story telling. It is this interest that birthed Cump Film Festival off a group of six film students (Karen Ndumia – Founder & Festival Director , Molly Karugia – programming director, Kelvin Kiromo – Program Manager, Jaleen Waithera- Project manager, Simbarashe Mutua – Operations & Logistics and Shirley Elsie – Production and Social media Manager) who realized that they had produced a lot films during their class projects; and had a desire to share those stories beyond the classroom.
Fast forward to 2017 a team was formed to spear head the dream of sharing stories via film, but also see other film students & budding filmmakers get a platform to showcase their films and also get empowerment opportunities to advance their craft.
Cump productions was then registered and has since been running the Cump Film Festival which is the first and only independent student’s film festival in Kenya dedicated to celebrating authentic African stories.
Cump Film Festival in New York
Cump Film Festival was invited as one of the partners at the World Film Fair 2018 which took place in October 2018 in New York, USA.
The invite opened up slots to showcase 20 short films and one feature film for free during the film fair. This opportunity meant that the global space is opening up for African stories.
Additionally, Karen, Founder and director Cump Festival was delegated to lead the Kenyan team at the first International session of Russian & African Filmmakers in Senegal. This opportunity benefited 10 Kenyan students and budding filmmakers who attended film workshops and showcased their films to the Senegalese audience.

Cump Film Festival 2022
Cump film festival 2022 is themed “What Unites us!” and will be hosted in Eldoret, home of champions at Rupa’s Mall. Workshops will begin on the 26th June 2022 all through to July 2nd 2022, the day of the gala.
The events will involve screenings followed by live Q&As with the filmmakers and leading industry experts.
