The Eldoret International Airport is one of two ways of getting into the City of Champions. It’s built on a 762 Hectares piece of land. It has 2 runways that stretch 3,500 meters long, taxiways, a terminal building with international arrival/departure and domestic arrival/departure. The airport has the capacity to land 1 Boeing 767, 3 medium airbus 300 and 4 light planes.
Eldoret International Airport is also the only known International airport with a man-made forest within its grounds. The Airport made history recently when it hosted Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta on the same day.
Eldoret town is currently experiencing a rapid growth in its economy with new businesses being set up in all parts of the city. With this expansion, the demand for quality office spaces is at an all-time high, and this has led to the various construction of high-rise buildings. According to Robert Ngisirey – Uasin Gishu Country Executive for Housing and Land, there are at least 12 commercial buildings under construction within Eldoret CBD all of which are above 14 storeys. Eldoret residents are a hard-working and resilient people. From the mama mboga in the market, boda-boda riders, matatu operators to the white collars in offices; on every sunrise, every working man and woman make their way to the CBD to earn their living.
Eldoret town is indeed beautiful. The current economic growth being experienced as well as socio-political tolerance within the town only means that the city will rise to much greater heights.
